Welcome to Touro Bouligny

The Touro Bouligny neighborhood, which is bounded by Saint Charles Avenue, Napolean Avenue, Louisiana Avenue and Magazine Street, is a vibrant part of New Orleans.  With many schools, houses of worship, restaurants and shops, two hospitals and parks this neighborhood is one of the most livable neighborhoods in the city.  People who live in Touro Bouligny can walk to most amenities.

Night Out Against Crime Block Party

Another successful Night Out Against Crime party was held in its usual spot on Camp Street.  And as usual, there was a good time had by all.  Many generous businesses in the Touro Bouligny area donated food, wine, beer, water and soft drinks; plus a very long list of wonderful gift certificates and beautiful items for our silent auction.  As always, the funds collected this night are donated to the Second District Police's COPS II program.

Please consider our local merchants who help to make this night a success each year when out shopping.  This year's donors were:

Garden District Book Shop  ♦  Byblos Lebanese Cuisine
The Red Carpet  ♦  Make Me Up  ♦  Wedding Belles
Fleur d'Orleans  ♦  Interior Design  ♦  Shadyside Pottery
Potsalot Pottery Gallery/Studio  ♦  Fancy Nails and Spa
Orient Expressed  ♦ Aux Belles Choses  ♦ Bremermann Designs
Mon Coeur ♦ Fancy Clothes  ♦  Neal Auction Co.  ♦  Feet First
Trendz Fashion Accessories  ♦  The Chimes Bed & Breakfast
Maison Perrier Bed & Breakfast  ♦  Hampton Inn  ♦ Olga Smoak

Touro Infirmary Gift Shop  ♦  Maison de Provences (many items)
Kevin Stone Antiques  ♦  Mignon Faget  ♦  Joey's K's  ♦  Ropa

The August Moon  ♦  Reginelli's Pizzeria  ♦  Baru Restaurant
Julie Neill Designs  ♦  Magazie Perks  ♦  Medium Rare Antiques
Wirthmore Antiques  ♦  Louisiana Specialty Foods, Inc.

Very Special thanks to Brian Chamberlain and Charles Franks of Louisiana Specialty Foods, both board members of the Touro Bouligny Security Board for the generous use of their home to host the event and their dedicated service to making this a huge success every year. Also, James and Olga Smoak who so tirelessly solicit the merchants and vendors for the fabulous auction items and the great food.\

Our real hero and champion of the neighborhood is Shane Pritchett, owner of the Fat Hen Grill, The Finer Diner, for his generous donation of hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and condiments that were so welcomed and appreciated by all attendees.  These had to be one of the high point of the block party activities, since there was not  a trace of these items left - even the aroma was inhaled.  Thank you, Shane!!

Neighborhood Meeting

The joint security district and homeowners' association meeting was held at St. George's on Tuesday, April 28.  There was a light turn out for the meeting probably due to the fact that it was in between Jazz Fest weekends.  Councilwoman Stacey Head spoke about rebuilding and rezoning issues; Major Bruce Little, Commander of the 2nd District and Quality of Life Officer talked about crime in the area.  If you came out last year you will be familiar with the topics, but they will include security patrol, information sharing, the night out against crime and the newsletter.

Crime Happend Here Signs

I was wondering if anyone knew who or what agency was putting up the Crime Happened Here signs that I've seen around the borders of the Touro Bouligny.  I was curious as to what was the intent.
